Maintenance

The Halberd Concierge Plan.

The Halberd Concierge Plan is the firm's residential maintenance program. It is intentionally distinct from a "comfort club" or a "membership." It is the continuation of the engineering relationship that began with the Comfort Advisor consultation: the same Advisor who walked the home, the same engineer who ran the Manual J, the same fabrication shop that built the ductwork, and now the same firm responsible for the equipment's long service life.

The plan exists because residential HVAC equipment installed correctly and maintained correctly will run twenty to twenty-five years; equipment installed correctly and maintained incorrectly will run twelve to fifteen. The math favors the plan. So does the relationship.

More than twenty-four hundred Triangle households are currently on the Concierge Plan. Some have been on it since 1986.

Commercial maintenance is bid separately

The Concierge Plan is residential only. Commercial maintenance contracts are scoped to the building, the equipment inventory, the occupancy profile, and the owner's planned capital schedule. We do not sell tiered commercial maintenance packages — every commercial contract is a building-specific document. Quarterly inspections are typical for commercial RTUs, monthly for chiller plants during the cooling season. See the commercial page for the engineering staff who scope these.

Why our maintenance pricing is not the lowest in the Triangle

It is straightforward to find a Triangle HVAC firm offering a "comfort club" at $14.95 per month. That firm dispatches a technician with a $25 inspection checklist and a $400 service-call goal. The visit is structured around finding repair revenue, not extending equipment life.

The Halberd Concierge Plan dispatches a Halberd-employed NATE-certified technician who has been trained on the equipment installed. The seasonal tune-up runs roughly ninety minutes — combustion analyzer readings, refrigerant subcooling and superheat checks, capacitor microfarad readings, motor amperage, blower static pressure, condensate trap clean, and a written report delivered to the homeowner the same day. The technician is paid a salary plus a satisfaction-indexed bonus, not a repair-revenue commission.

We have customers who joined the program in 1986 and are still on it. They pay more than the budget option down the street and they have not regretted it.

Frequently asked

Can I cancel the Concierge Plan?

Yes, at any time, with thirty days' notice. We do not require an annual contract. Customers who stop the plan can rejoin without penalty.

Is the Concierge Plan available on systems Halberd did not install?

Yes, with an initial inspection. We will not enroll a system we have determined is unsafe to operate, but we routinely enroll equipment installed by other firms.

Is commercial maintenance the same program?

No. The Concierge Plan is residential only. Commercial maintenance is bid separately as a building-specific contract.

Does the plan cover refrigerant?

Up to one pound of R-410A annually under the Concierge tier; up to two pounds annually under Concierge Plus. Beyond that we bill at our standard rate. Refrigerant pricing has been volatile and we prefer transparency over a hidden cap.
