The firm runs six service practices out of three branches. Each practice is staffed by its own credentialed technicians and engineers; commercial work routes through the Raleigh engineering office, and residential dispatch happens at each branch independently. The Comfort Advisor consultation and the Halberd Concierge Plan span every practice — they are the relationship layer, not a separate service line.

Residential Climate
System replacement, new-construction install, and service for the Triangle's custom-home, historic, and high-end residential market. Carrier Infinity, Mitsubishi M- and P-Series, Lennox SL280V, Daikin Fit as the equipment of record. A Manual J Block-Load calculation on every replacement. Duct design from the in-house fabrication shop.
Commercial Engineering
Two PE-licensed engineers, six commercial-credentialed technicians, and a project portfolio across office, medical, retail, and light-industrial buildings in the Triangle. RTU service and replacement, chilled-water systems, VAV-zone retrofit, TAB, and BMS integration on Niagara, BACnet, and Tridium. PE-stamped scope documents on every commercial project.
Maintenance — The Concierge Plan
A three-tier residential maintenance program at $39, $79, and $129 per month per system. A continuation of the engineering relationship that began with the Comfort Advisor consultation, not a separate sales channel. More than 2,400 active contracts. Some customers joined the program in 1986 and remain on it today.
Comfort Advisor Consultations
A 90-minute in-home consultation, no charge, no obligation, no same-day pricing. A Manual J load calculation, a duct-design summary, and a written quote delivered by email within five business days. The quote is valid for ninety days. Four NATE-certified Comfort Advisors on staff; Marcus Vail is the lead.
Duct Design & Fabrication
The Halberd duct fabrication shop has run since 1991 — uncommon for a regional firm. Five fabricators, two CNC plasma tables, and an overhead crane. Duct design is part of the engineering process, not a phone call to a third-party shop. ASHRAE-compliant Manual D on every project.
Property Management & Multifamily
Service contracts for Triangle property managers and multifamily owners. A single point of contact, a dispatched Halberd-employed technician on every call, no third-party referral mills. Currently servicing a 14-building Class B commercial portfolio and seven multifamily properties across Wake and Durham counties.
