The Comfort Advisor consultation
A 90-minute conversation, not a sales call.
Before a single ductwork measurement, before a single equipment recommendation, before any number is on the page — Halberd sends a Comfort Advisor to your home. The consultation lasts about 90 minutes. The Advisor does not carry tools. The Advisor carries a measured drawing of your home (we draw it on site), a Manual J load calculator, and the patience to walk every room with you.
The Advisor will ask how you live in the house. Which rooms get too warm in August. Which rooms are too cool in February. Where the noise of the current system bothers you. Whether anyone in the household has allergies or asthma. Whether the basement floods. Whether the dog gets cold.
Only then does the Advisor return to the office to run a real Manual J calculation, design a system that fits the house, and write you a quote. The quote arrives by email within five business days. There is no same-day-only pricing. There is no high-pressure close. The quote is good for ninety days.
The consultation itself is at no cost. The quote that follows it is the most considered estimate you will receive from any HVAC firm in North Carolina.

Engineering & fabrication
An in-house engineering office and a duct fabrication shop. Few firms still have both.
Phillip Halberd, PE, leads the engineering office. Two staff engineers — Jonelle Park, PE, LEED AP, and a third hire in 2023 — handle Manual J, Manual N, and Manual D calculations on every Halberd project. PE-stamped scope documents are standard on commercial work.
The in-house duct fabrication shop has been part of the firm since 1991. Most regional HVAC firms outsource sheet-metal fabrication to a third-party shop, which removes duct design from the engineering process and converts it into a guess. Halberd's duct design and duct fabrication are the same set of hands.
The maintenance program — the Halberd Concierge Plan — is intentionally distinct from a "comfort club." It is the continuation of the engineering relationship that began with the Comfort Advisor consultation.
